A flexible and comprehensive file decompression and compression tool.

Even though there are probably hundreds of different programs available, both paid and free, that can compress and decompress different types of archives, ArcConvert is another example of that. As the name suggests, ArcConvert was created as an archive converter.

But looking a little bit further, ArcConvert has some redeeming features that make it a contender, not least being the fact that it's a portable application that does not require installation in order to run. That said, you can run it directly from a portable device like a USB stick or an external hard drive.

The program supports literally all of the most common file formats like 7ZIP, RAR, TAR, ARJ, ISO, ACE and of course ZIP. With that ArcConvert also supports password protection, drag-and-drop archive creation, CPU priority and more.

The interface of ArcConvert isn't too bad either and makes it easy to convert between different archive file formats. And though the look is minimalistic, a little digging around reveals several different features.

All in all, ArcConvert is a fast little utility that can be useful in certain situations, especially if the party you wish to share data with has limited archive capabilities.

Features of ArcConvert

  • Automatic password detection from archive.
  • Includes the EXE from the archiver.
  • Supports compression and decompression of many different formats.

Compatibility and License

ArcConvert is provided under a freeware license on Windows from file archivers with no restrictions on usage. Download and installation of this PC software is free and 0.70 Beta is the latest version last time we checked.

What version of Windows can ArcConvert run on?

ArcConvert can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems with no dedicated 64-bit download provided.
